Volunteers provide water to tired and aching runners at regular sties along the course of a marathon. These locations are called hydration stations and they offer important relief from the heat, dehydration and fatigue.
Hydration Station (Fountain) reorganizes this system of need-supply distribution into an architecture of like elements, a ten-tier pyramid of plastic wine glasses. When animated by a ceremonial pouring of sports drink the sculpture pays tribute to high performance and stands as a metaphor for systems of social organization.
Hydration Station was presented as part of GreatLife! and in conjunction with Run This Block.
